Another round of blowing snow, high winds coming to London region
CBC
The London region is in for another blast of winter weather Wednesday afternoon.
Environment Canada is warning of snow squalls bringing between 15 to 30 cm of snowfall in the London, Parkhill and Eastern Middlesex County regions through to Thursday.
"We're looking at some pretty big changes weather-wise over the next 12 to 24 hours," said Environment Canada meteorologist Jeff Coulson. "We're looking at dramatic changes in temperature throughout the course of today from the mild weather we've had the last couple days."
Temperatures are expected fall quickly throughout Wednesday, while wind gusts of up to 60 km/h will bring blowing snow.
The weather will come from lake effect snow off Lake Huron. Wind will be blowing from the northwest, meaning the worst of the snow activity will be in London's west end, Strathroy, Grand Bend, and eastern Lambton County, Coulson said.
The weather organization is warning that road travel will be hazardous, and that visibility could suddenly change to near-zero.
"Anyone familiar with lake effect snow knows conditions can be relatively good in one part of the area, and yet if you drive into one of these external bands, the visibility can rapidly diminish and accumulations can rapidly pick up in certain areas," Coulson said.
Ontario Provincial Police is also warning drivers to be careful on the roads when travelling throughout southwestern Ontario.
"Please make sure that you pay attention to the weather, plan ahead and set your alarm clock just a little bit earlier so you can get up a little bit earlier, especially if you have to travel," said Sgt. Ed Sanchuk in a video posted on X.
Coulson said this winter has been an active snow squall season and that more is expected in the coming weeks.
