Another death in Palakkad hospital where mom, infant died; Kerala health min orders probe

A 27-year-old woman died due to medical negligence while under surgery in the same Palakkad hospital where a mother and her newborn infant died on July 4. Kerala health minister, Veena George, has ordered officials to take action as per the Clinical Establishment Act.
Another case of death due to medical negligence has been reported in the same hospital in Kerala’s Palakkad where a mother and her newborn infant died recently. Kerala health minister, Veena George has ordered officials to take action against the hospital and initiate a probe.
Karthika, a 27-year-old woman, allegedly died during surgery due to medical negligence. She was infected by polio in her childhood and was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, July 5, for surgery on her leg.
Her relatives allege there was some mistake on the doctors' part while giving her anaesthesia, which led to her death. The relatives were informed of the death at 9 pm. However, her family claims that there was a delay in informing them about Karthika’s death.
Palakkad South Police reached the spot after the victim’s family protested outside the hospital. They moved the body to the district hospital for post mortem.
Two days ago, on Monday, July 4, another woman and her newborn infant died due to medical negligence by doctors of the same hospital. The relatives of the two deceased alleged that doctors had delayed the delivery, resulting in the death of the mother and her newborn child.
Health Minister Veena George had ordered action against Thangam hospital as per the Clinical Establishment Act. This is the first time a case has been taken against a hospital in Kerala on the basis of the Clinical Establishment Act.
