Angry villagers close power station over 5-day electricity outage in Haryana's Fatehabad

Angered by there being no electricity in the region for the past five days, locals of the Hukmawali village shut down the doors of the power station.
Angered by there being no electricity in the region for the past five days, locals of the Hukmawali village in Fatehabad district of Haryana shut down the doors of the power station.
The angry villagers have also threatened to set the power station on fire if electricity supply is not resumed immediately.
The locals have sat on a protest outside the power station and are demanding the electricity supply to be reinstated immediately.
"Panchayat had given 14 acres of land to the department to build a 220KV substation in the village, in return for which they were promised 24 hours electricity, but for the last 5-7 days they are not getting electricity.There is no electricity at night at all, even after contacting the officials again and again, the problem is not resolved, due to which they were forced to lock the 220 KV substation today. The villagers will sit on dharna (protest) till the power problem is not resolved," said Ram Singh, a local resident.
"For the last several days, electricity has not been provided, due to which all the villagers are upset. There is no electricity at night, the children are unable to sleep. If the electricity supply is not fixed in the village, then we will continue the dharna (protest) and if the officials still do not listen, we will destroy the power house and set it on fire," said Balbir Singh, a local resident.
Meanwhile, Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (HBVN) JE Pawan Kumar said that the transformer has been damaged due to the rains and this is what is leading to the disrupted supply of electricity. He said that steps are being taken to rectify the fault.
He also added that the higher officials will be made aware of this and a new transformer will be brought to ensure electricity supply is reinstated at the earliest.
