Andhra Pradesh CID arrested TDP leader Paruchuri Ashok Babu for producing fake degree certificates. The TDP alleges that the ruling YSRCP and police are involved in a vendetta against them. However, CID sources said that he was arrested based on strong evidence.
Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID), on Thursday, February 10, arrested senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Member of Legislative Committee (MLC) Paruchuri Ashok Babu for producing fake degree certificates.
It is alleged that Lokayukta had ordered a probe against Ashok Babu for producing fake degree certificates to get a promotion. He was arrested in the middle of the night on Thursday.
However, the midnight arrest has triggered a political war. The opposition TDP alleged that the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) was targeting its leaders.
They alleged that YSRCP and the police have been involved in a vendetta since CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took over power.

Condemning the police action, TDP National President and former CM N Chandrababu Naidu expressed strong reservations and said that the government was victimising opposition party leaders.
“A false case was filed solely to arrest Ashok Babu in the name of anomalies in service matters,” said Naidu. The TDP chief also questioned the need for making the midnight arrest of Ashok Babu.
Arvind Kejriwal supported the Punjab government's action after former Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar's arrest in a suicide case. The party said it acts against its own leaders, unlike the BJP, citing a Haryana incident.
