Ancient Romans' favorite sauce reveals fishy secrets after 1,800 years
Fox News
DNA research by biologist Gonçalo Themudo has revealed that Ancient Romans' popular garum was made from sardines, offering insights into the umami-rich fish sauce exported across Europe.
"Romans most likely liked its rich flavor and versatility as a condiment – and prices seem to have matched their fondness for it." "It could be used as fish broth and used to season meat or fish during preparation of meals." Andrea Margolis is a lifestyle writer for Fox News Digital and Fox Business.
