India Today
Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Karnataka has sparked speculation that a change of guard may be likely in the state with less than a year to go to assembly polls.
In the midst of political upheaval in Karnataka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in capital Bengaluru late on Monday, sparking speculation that a change of guard may be likely in the state with less than a year to go to assembly polls.
During his visit, Shah is expected to meet Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and hold discussions on the political landscape in the state and review the BJP’s poll preparations. Cabinet expansion is also believed to be on the agenda.
The former BJP president is also slated to meet senior party leaders, including B S Yediyurappa, the Lingayat strongman who was shunted from the CM post and succeeded by Bommai amid political turmoil last year.
The leaders are likely to meet over lunch at Bommai's official residence on Tuesday, and then at the party state office in the evening.
Shah had last visited the state on April 1 and attended the state BJP core committee meeting, during which the party set the target of crossing the 150 seat-mark in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. The committee also discussed induction of leaders from other political parties, and strengthening the organisation to prepare for the polls.

Apart from political engagements, Shah is scheduled to attend several events, including a valedictory function of 'Khelo India' University Games in Bengaluru on Tuesday. He will also be paying tributes to 12th-century social reformer and Lingayat saint Basavanna on the occasion Basava Jayanthi.
