A new report published by the Alzheimer’s Association highlights the growing rate of Alzheimer's disease diagnoses, along with the health care shortage and rising costs.
Despite promising advances in the treatment of early-stage patients, the Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report revealed some key challenges, including lack of communication with doctors and missed opportunities for early-stage diagnoses and intervention. "As our population ages, so does the number of people afflicted with the disease." "Many older adults believe that their age-related forgetfulness is normal, but early recognition and intervention leads to better outcomes." "The population of people age 65 and olderis expected to grow from 58 million in 2021 to 88 million in 2050," Nicole Purcell, DO, general neurologist and senior director of clinical practice at the Alzheimer's Association in Chicago, Illinois, told Fox News Digital in an interview.
