QNADoha Qatar took part in the 7th Periodic Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council Heads of the Supreme and Cassation Courts on Sunday. The meeting was held online. The delegation from the State of Qatar was led by HE Hassan bin Lahdan Al Hassan Al Mohannadi, President of the Supreme Judiciary Council and the Court of Cassation.During the meeting, participants discussed the agenda items, including the draft of the unified law system for the GCC statesâ Supreme and Cassation Courts, and the State of Qatarâs proposal on practical experiment exchange in the GCC countriesâ courts, regarding the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the proposal of Bahrainâs Cassation Court on the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.The participants applauded Qatarâs proposal to exchange practical lessons among Gulf courts on the means, methods, and lessons learned thus far in dealing with the challenges of the Corona pandemic. They also emphasised the importance of including this proposal, as well as the sharing of experiences and lessons in issues related to it, such as emerging judicial principles arising from the litigation environment during the pandemic, as well as supporting administrative methods and methodologies to overcome the challenges imposed by the pandemic.At the meetingâs conclusion, the officials adopted all of the items on the agenda, qualifying them to be on the agenda for the Supreme Councilâs meeting at the level of the six member statesâ leaders.The meeting of the Heads of Supreme and Cassation Courts, which follows the legislative and legal affairs sector in the Councilâs General Secretariat, is held annually to discuss and approve the files and items that are submitted to it through two preparatory mechanisms: the experts meeting and the representatives and assistants meeting.
