Adani Group to invest ₹30,000 crore in Kerala, including expansion of Thiruvananthapuram airport and Vizhinjam port.
Adani Group will invest ₹30,000 crore in Kerala over the next five years, Karan Adani, managing director, Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, has said.
The investments will include ₹5,500 crore to expand operations of the Thiruvananthapuram airport and another ₹20,000-crore additional investment in the Vizhinjam port, aimed at turning the facility into the largest transhipment port in this part of the world, he said in his address at the Invest Kerala global summit that began here on Friday.
He said that the Adani Group is also investing in a logistics and e-commerce hub in Kochi. The cement capacity of the Adani Group in Kochi will also be scaled up, he said. These investments will total ₹30,000 crore in the next five years, he said.
He said that Kerala has a long maritime tradition. “What we know of Vizhinjam is a continuation of the tradition of Muziris, which linked the Kerala port to Egypt and China. The Adani Group is proud to associate with Kerala’s progress through its investments in the State,” he said.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister PInarayi Vijayan and former Chief Minister the late Oommen Chandy, the Vizhinjam port works have progressed steadily. Vizhinjam made history by docking the largest container ship, with 24,000 containers recently,” he said.
Mr. Adani said that the investments by the group in the Thiruvananthapuram airport will expand the facilities to handle 12 million passengers from the present 4.5 million passengers.
