A blistery blast of snow expected for the London area Thursday afternoon

Environment Canada is calling for blast of heavy snowfall in the London, Ont. region Thursday afternoon.
The weather service issued a weather advisory, warning the majority of snowfall accumulations may fall within a couple of hours due to high snowfall rates.
"We're looking for the snow to really start late morning, early afternoon, so in the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m timeframe," said Environment Canada meteorologist Steven Fliseder. "And with that, it'll be a very short duration snowfall. So the danger with that is heavy snowfall rates. That's a really big concern for reduction in visibility."
Strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h are expected later on in the evening after the heavy snow has moved through, the weather agency said in a weather advisory. It's part of a low pressure system making its way across southwestern Ontario.
Accumulations could be anywhere from two to four centimetres over the course of two to three hours. Gusty winds will further complicate the afternoon commute, adding blowing snow.
The daytime high Thursday is expected to reach 1 C.
Temperatures for the rest of February should be right where they ought to be this time of year, said Flisfeder. Warmer than normal temperatures will be taking a pause, although not much more precipitation is anticipated aside from a few lake effect flurries.
Drivers on Thursday evening are advised to take extra care.
Friday is expected to by mainly cloudy, with moderate gusting winds up to 40 km/h, and a high of -2 C. A mix of sun and cloud on Saturday with a 40 per cent chance of flurries and high of -5 C. Sunday will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries, windy, and high of -1 C.
