729 criminal cases booked in Raichur district till March-end this year

Raichur police registered 729 criminal cases by March 2026, addressing illegal activities and urging parental vigilance against missing minors.
The District Police have registered 729 cases related to crime reported under various police stations from January 2026 to March-end, Raichur Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri has said.
Releasing a video sharing information there on Monday, Mr. Giri said that police have taken action against illegal activities, illegal sand extraction and other crimes and booked cases under the relevant sections of BNNS and other Acts, including NDPS Act.
“A total of 105 cases have been registered against gambling activities, 172 cases against Matka, 22 cases against betting, 18 cases against cock fighting, 13 cases under the Essential Commodities Act, 207 cases against illegal sand extraction and 121 cases for Excise violation, of which 23 cases are related to illegal hooch selling (832 litres of hooch have been seized) and 71 cases against ganja peddling, while 11 accused have been arrested and 4.35 kg of ganja has been seized from them,” he explained.
Expressing serious concern over minor girls going missing and some being lured, the Superintendent of Police appealed to parents to counsel girls below 18 and take precautions against their elopement after being lured.
In 2026, as many as 26 missing cases have been reported. Of these, 19 were minor girls and seven minor boys who went missing.
The police, however, have solved 10 of these cases. Of the 10, six minor girls and four minor boys have been found. At present, 16 cases, of the 26, are under investigation. Of the 16, 13 are minor girls and three minor boys, the officer said.
