
7,326 kg ganja seized in 161 cases and 420 persons arrested in 2024 in Anakapalli district, says SP

Anakapalli SP Tuhin Sinha reports on district crime statistics, including drug seizures, road accidents, cybercrime, and crime prevention measures.
Anakapalli Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha said that the district police have registered 161 ganja cases during the year 2024, seizing 7,326 kg ganja and four litres of hashish oil. In these cases, as many as 420 persons were arrested, while 126 are still absconding. Additionally, 113 vehicles used in the transportation of ganja were seized, he said.
Mr. Tuhin Sinha on Tuesday released an annual crime report, in which he stated that to make the district drug-free and curb illegal ganja transport, five permanent and 11 dynamic checkposts were established and vehicle checks were being conducted with the help of police dogs and drones.
He said that 63 villages across 16 mandals, where individuals involved in such offences are most active, were identified, and anti-drug committees were formed at the mandal and village-levels for special surveillance. Additionally, history sheets were opened against 475 individuals, and they were kept under regular surveillance. Along with continuous surveillance on ganja, the government’s ‘Sankalpam’ programme was used to raise awareness among the public and students.
During the year 2024, as many as 127 property-related crimes were resolved and assets worth ₹1.96 crore were seized. The district also saw 23 murders and 38 attempt-to-murders, and most of them were due to family disputes.
In the year 2024, a total of 696 road accidents cases were registered, and 316 individuals lost their lives in road accidents. As part of road accident prevention, 26 black spots were identified, and steps were being taken to prevent accidents.
In the year 2024, as many as 4,332 cases were registered against motorists for drunken driving and they were fined ₹44 lakh.
During this year, as many as 103 cybercrime cases were registered, an increase compared to previous year. Steps were taken to freeze ₹2.41 crore from bank accounts related to cybercriminals in these cases, and around ₹16.97 lakh was returned to the victims.
