6 held for rape, murder of Dalit sisters in Lakhimpur Kheri

At least six people have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of two Dalit sisters in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district.
The police have arrested six people for the rape and murder of two Dalit sisters in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Thursday. According to the police, the girls were being pressured to marry two of the accused who, along with four of their accomplices, raped and murdered them.
Speaking to India Today TV, Superintendent of Police of Lakhimpur Sanjeev Suman said all the accused and the victims belonged to Lal Purwa village. Four of the accused raped and murdered the girls while the other two helped them.
The accused have been identified as Chetram Gautam, Junaid, Suhail, Kareemuddin, Arif and Hafeez-ur-Rehman. Junaid was arrested after an encounter with the police in which he received a bullet injury.
The SP also said that a panel of three doctors will do the post-mortem of the victims and the videography of the same process will be done as well.
