
59,772 posts of teachers vacant in Karnataka, School Education Minister informs Assembly

On the measures taken to fill up the vacant posts, the Minister said a recruitment notification was issued in 2022 to fill up 15,000 posts of graduate teachers, and 13,352 candidates had been found eligible for the posts. The government had issued appointment orders to 12,521 eligible candidates. The matter with regard to issuing appointment orders to the remaining candidates is in the Supreme Court.
As many as 59,772 posts of teachers are vacant in Karnataka, Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa informed the Legislative Assembly on December 19.
In his reply to a starred question by BJP member K. Gopalaiah, the Minister said 50,067 posts in primary schools and 9,705 posts in high schools were vacant. At present, the department employs 1,65,618 teachers.
Responding to a question if any teacher was appointed through outsourcing agencies, the Minister said that there were no outsourced teachers. However, 35,000 people had been appointed as guest teachers in primary schools, and another 8,968 guest teachers had been appointed for high schools.

On October 7, 2024, the government of Karnataka issued approval to appoint 4,882 teachers for primary schools and 385 for high schools located in seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka.
