The death toll due to the incident has increased to 17. The rescue operation resumed after it had to be stalled on Thursday for shooting stones. According to a report by news agency PTI, the operation was suspended for several hours on Friday also as boulders were falling in between at the landslide site near Chaura village in Kinnaur.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
