A total of 300 individuals were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol during a drive conducted by the Cyberabad Police over the weekend.
Among the vehicles seized were 231 two-wheelers, 58 four-wheelers, eight three-wheelers and three heavy vehicles.
With 35 cases, Miyapur led the charts, followed by RC Puram with 33 cases, Shadnagar with 31 cases and Alwal with 30 cases. On the other hand, Raidurgam recorded the lowest cases with five, followed by KPHB, Gachibowli and Madhapur with six cases each.
Police data suggested that 278 individuals were found to have blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) between 50 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. A further 17 offenders registered BAC levels between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 5 individuals were found with exceptionally high BAC readings ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml.
Those booked will be produced before the court for legal proceedings. The Cyberabad Traffic Police have reiterated that anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol and causing fatal accidents will be arrested and prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The maximum punishment under this provision is 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
