The transfer comes as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability initiatives and contribute to a greener future for Qatar and planet Earth. Leveraging its long-standing experience serving a variety of needs in wide-ranging industries, Elegancia deployed its market-leading capabilities in project management to successfully deliver the unusual shipment. The complex and logistically challenging project necessitated the use of a special vessel to transport the trees on their two-week voyage. The trees that reached 18 metres in height with their root balls were loaded onto a bulk carrier with a 20-metre deep covered hold.Commenting on the achievement, Henrik Christiansen, chief executive officer of Elegancia Group, said: “The shipping of such a large number of trees of various sizes and over a distance of 3,000 nautical miles is a remarkable milestone in our service history. Despite the challenging nature of the operation, our unique capabilities and our experienced and highly qualified professionals deployed their unmatched expertise in planning and execution, further strengthening our stellar track record in delivering projects with excellence.”The project involved several months-long planning and coordination. Trees of this size require agricultural preparation before they can be moved to avoid any damage to the roots. These procedures can take from three to four months to encourage the trees to establish a new root system. Once the trees were ready for their journey, the vessel’s hold underwent cleaning and sanitisation, and wooden cradles and structures were installed to allow the tallest ones’ horizontal support during the voyage. Elegancia also contracted specialist stevedores for this project who organised the trees in the vessel’s hold and ensured their irrigation throughout the voyage until their unloading in Doha.
