The number of daily COVID-19 cases being reported in the London area continues to fall as the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting just two new cases Monday. There were 25 additional cases reported over the weekend and no additional deaths.
The health unit posted 20 recoveries, with 104 known active cases in Middlesex-London, the fewest since mid-August.
The seven-day rolling average of daily cases is also trending downward to 10.
About 87.5 per cent of COVID-19 cases reported since the vaccination campaign started on Dec. 23, 2020, have been in unvaccinated residents, however, recent data from the MLHU shows those who are fully vaccinated are now leading the counts.
In the last two weeks, the number of fully vaccinated people who have contracted the virus made up 48.6 per cent of the total cases. Those who are unvaccinated accounted for nearly 40 per cent of the total count.
"We knew this would happen when we're at the point where almost everyone is vaccinated or well over 80 per cent are vaccinated now," said Dr. Chris Mackie, the medical offficer of health for the MLHU. "So it's not a surprise that we're seeing as many cases in our group [fully-vaccinated] as in the unvaccinated group because there are just so many more people who are vaccinated."
According to the MLHU, over 83 per cent of eligible residents are now fully vaccinated, or four out of five people.
Intelligence regarding foreign interference sometimes didn't make it to the prime minister's desk in 2021 because Canada's spy agency and the prime minister's national security adviser didn't always see eye to eye on the nature of the threat, according to a recent report from one of Canada's intelligence watchdogs.
