Two more schools in the N.W.T. have been found to have elevated lead levels in their drinking water.
The two schools are Elizabeth Mackenzie Elementary School in Behchokǫ̀, and École St. Joseph School in Yellowknife.
In a news release Thursday evening, the territorial government says fixtures and water fountains at the schools that had elevated levels will be out of service and an alternative drinking water source will be provided.
Other Yellowknife schools have previously been tested and found to have elevated lead levels in some fixtures. The territory still has a handful of other schools it plans on testing.
The government launched a lead testing protocol for drinking water in schools across the territory in October last year.
The procedures were drawn up after results showed lead levels in three schools exceeded Health Canada recommendations.
