2 more arrested for looting, killing Sikhs in Kanpur in 1984

In 1984, following the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the accused allegedly killed Sikhs in Kanpur after looting them, officials told India Today TV.
Two more arrests have been made in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh Kanpur riots by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to re-investigate the anti-Sikh riots in the UP city following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The accused allegedly killed Sikhs in Kanpur after looting them, officials told India Today TV.
Siddh Gopal Gupta, alias Babbu, is 66 years old while the second arrested accused, Jitendra Kumar Tiwari, is 58.
The SIT was formed in 2019 by the Centre to reopen the seven anti-Sikh riot cases from 1984, where the accused were either acquitted or the trial closed. 13 people have been arrested so far by the SIT of the 74 identified.
“We have arrested two accused who were named in the FIR. They murdered Sikhs after looting them, senior SIT official Balendu Bhushan told India Today TV.
Earlier in March, the SIT had planned to send a team of three sub-inspectors and three constables to Punjab to gather statements and further investigate the cases.
