2 killed, 3 injured in accident at Himachal Pradesh’s Tidong Hydropower Project

2 workers died and 3 were injured after a trolley slipped at Himachal Pradesh’s Tidong Hydropower Project on Saturday.

Two workers of the Tidong Hydropower Project died on Saturday after a trolley leading inside the tunnel of the project slipped and fell inside. Another three workers were injured in the accident. The three injured have been taken to a hospital nearby.

Five workers of the project were travelling in the trolley when it reportedly slipped from the track and fell inside. The tunnel stretches for hundreds of feet with a 45 to 50 degree slope.

The 50th battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) along with other agencies initiated a rescue operation and helped the three injured workers to escape the tunnel. The operation was called off after the two dead bodies were retrieved.

The two dead workers were the residents of Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand. The power project is located at Retakhan on the Tidong river, a tributary of the Satluj.
