
10 people charged in Iqaluit after RCMP carry out a series of search warrants

Ten people have been charged with a series of trafficking charges in Iqaluit as a result of a five-day effort by the RCMP to combat drug trafficking.
In a news release Friday, the RCMP say they executed search warrants on eight homes in Iqaluit between Oct. 11 and Oct. 15.
"As a result, police seized drugs, cash, weapons and evidence consistent with drug trafficking were seized," the release reads.
Ten people have been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act and the Criminal Code. The charges include trafficking a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
The RCMP is encouraging people to report information into the illicit drug trade to their local police detachment.
