A woman in her 40s is dead after a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in western Prince Edward Island.
At about 4:20 a.m., Prince District RCMP, the Tignish Fire Department and Island EMS responded to the crash on Route 2 in St. Peter & St. Paul, just north of Profit’s Corner, RCMP said in a news release.
The driver of the SUV, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“Any time we do encounter a fatal crash, our role is to address any criminality,” Cpl. Gavin Moore, media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP, told CBC News.
“And so an investigation will begin… to see if any actions that contributed to this crash may be of a criminal nature.”
Police said Route 2 was closed for several hours while a traffic reconstructionist attended the scene.
The road has since reopened.
