Halton police say a woman has been charged with assault following an anti-mask protest at a Burlington mall in December.
A group of about 20 people "pushed past security" at the Mapleview Mall around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 and protested in the food court, according to investigators.
Police say the protesters were not wearing masks and did not show proof of vaccination, which is required.
No arrests were made that day, police say, although officers were present,
However, following further investigation, police say they determined a security guard had been assaulted.
A media release announcing the arrest did not provide details of the assault, but did say the guard did not suffer any physical injuries.
A 58-year-old Burlington woman was charged with assault and mischief on Jan. 19.
She has been released pending a court date early next month, say police.
P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is looking for 50 substitute bus drivers, and it'll be recruiting at three job fairs on Saturday, June 8. The job fairs are located at the Atlantic Superstore in Montague, Royalty Crossing in Charlottetown, and the bus parking lot of Three Oaks Senior High in Summerside. All three run from 9 a.m. until noon. Dave Gillis, the director of transportation and risk management for the Public Schools Branch, said the number of substitute drivers they're hiring isn't unusual. "We are always looking for more. Our drivers tend to have an older demographic," he said.
