A weekend winter storm that brought much of Canada under severe weather alerts continues to bring chilly conditions to Canadians across the country.
South of the border, U.S. residents from central and southern states, including the East Coast, faced similar weather including snow, ice, wind and extreme cold.
The Associated Press reported motorists were stranded, classes cancelled, government offices were shut down and power outages plagued several states including Kentucky, Indiana and West Virgina.

Residents of northern parts of Manitoba are in for a chilly start to their week.
Areas like Brochet and Tadoule Lake can expect very cold wind chills. According to Environment Canada, a cold air mass has dropped temperatures into the mid -30 C and when combined with winds of 10 to 15 km/h puts extreme wind chills near -45 Monday morning into Tuesday morning before warmer temperatures move into the regions during the day.
The weather agency has warned that extreme cold puts everyone at risk including vulnerable groups like children, seniors, people with chronic illness and people without proper shelter.
