WASHINGTON - The White House has posted a video that appears footage from a popular Nintendo sports simulation video game to tout the results of US strikes on Iran, sparking online fury over the inappropriate imagery amid the high casualties in the ongoing conflict.
In a mash-up posted on X on March 12, Wii Sports characters are shown engaging in sports including golf, tennis, boxing and bowling along with real-life footage of the bombing of Iranian military sites, with one scene flashing the words “hole-in-one”.
The roughly 50-second video, posted with the word “UNDEFEATED”, opens with “Operation Epic Fury”, in reference to the US-led operation against Iran launched on Feb 28.
It combines gameplay moments such as when a character knocks down pins or dunks a ball with airstrike footage showing attacks on Iranian vessels and ground facilities.
