Ontario's police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old London woman on Friday morning.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says London police officers were called to an unidentified business on Fanshawe Park Road West around 12:10 a.m. for a welfare check.
The agency said police spoke with the 32-year-old woman at the scene and took her to her home near Fanshawe Park Road West and Pinnacle Parkway where she was dropped off.
"The next morning, a family member went to the home and located the woman deceased," the SIU said in a statement.
A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Sunday, and three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case, the SIU said.
The police watchdog investigates incidents involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
It's the ninth investigation launched this year by the SIU involving London police. Five of the other cases involve a custody injury, while three involve sexual assault allegations.
The agency is also investigating an incident involving Huron County OPP and a serious injury sustained by a 69-year-old man.
According to the SIU, the man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in connection with an incident from February and taken to the OPP's Huron detachment.
"While being escorted to the cells, an interaction occurred between the man and officers. The man was eventually placed in a cell," the SIU said. He was later taken to the hospital and diagnosed with an unspecified serious injury.
Three investigators have been assigned to the case, the SIU said.
