Former India captain Rohit Sharma shared a warm moment with Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram in Colombo ahead of the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash on Sunday. The two were seen chatting, hugging and shaking hands during the pre-match ceremony, with the clip quickly going viral online.
Rohit was in Colombo in his role as a brand ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and he made sure to soak in the build-up around cricket’s biggest rivalry. He spent time around the Indian camp, greeting players and support staff with smiles and handshakes, looking every bit like a senior figure dropping in to wish the team well before the big night.

The moment that stole the spotlight, though, was his interaction with Akram. Rohit and the Pakistan great had the duty of walking out with the T20 World Cup trophy ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash, alongside International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Sanjog Gupta. Before the routine ceremony at the R Premadasa Stadium, the two shared a friendly exchange, posed for photographs, and embraced, which drew mixed reactions from fans online.

The interaction stood out even more because it came against the backdrop of India continuing their no-handshake stance with the Pakistan team. At the toss, India captain Suryakumar Yadav once again did not take part in the customary greeting with Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha, in line with the policy the Indian side has followed since the Asia Cup.
