USA vs Italy baseball live updates: Americans heading for stunning upset?
USA TODAY
Team USA looks to finish undefeated in WBC group play with a showdown against Italy.
Unbeaten Team USA (3-0) faces Italy in its World Baseball Classic pool finale on Tuesday in Houston and can clinch a spot in the tournament's quarterfinals with a win.
The Americans dispatched Brazil, Great Britain and Mexico in their first three pool games, the last one a nail-biter in front of a frenzied bipartisan crowd at Daikin Park.
"It's unbelievable getting to play baseball like this this early in the year," said Roman Anthony, who hit a three-run homer in the win against Mexico. "It means a little bit more playing for your country and representing."
Nolan McLean starts for Team USA in the final game of pool play following Logan Webb, Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes in the first three. The 24-year-old McLean only has eight MLB starts under his belt, going 5-1 with a 2.06 ERA in his Mets debut last season.
