Unemployment rate falls as states start easing Covid-19 restrictions

Rural employment seems to be witnessed a better recovery compared to urban areas at the onset of the monsoon. The rising unemployment has also stopped due to the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions, allowing the informal sector to resume operations.
The unemployment rate has fallen in the country as Indian states continue to ease Covid-related restrictions. The weekly unemployment rate has improved to 8.7 per cent after falling over 10 per cent in May. Rural employment seems to be witnessed a better recovery compared to urban areas at the onset of the monsoon. The rising unemployment has also stopped due to the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions, allowing the informal sector to resume operations. Data from Mumbai-based think tank Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy suggests that urban unemployment dropped to 9.7 per cent in the week ended June 13, compared to the monthly urban unemployment rate of 14.7 per cent in May.More Related News
