Vaccines were a major topic during Dr. Casey Means' confirmation hearing. Here's what the surgeon general nominee said.
It didn't take long for the topic of vaccines to come up in surgeon general nominee Dr. Casey Means' confirmation hearing.
During the Feb. 25 hearing (which is still going), members of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pension grilled Means on her views about vaccines, in relation to measles, flu and autism.
In his round of questioning, committee chair Sen. Bill Cassidy, a Louisiana Republican, brought up the ongoing measles outbreaks in the United States.
"Would you encourage other mothers to have their children vaccinated against measles with the MMR vaccine?" Cassidy, who is also a physician, asked.
"I believe vaccines save lives. I believe that vaccines are a key part of any infectious disease public health strategy," Means said.
