Trump Admits His Tariff Tactic Is Too Complex, Says He'll Do Something 'Much Easier' Instead

"I think it will be well received," he said.
President Donald Trump on Thursday declared that he sees no reason to spend time negotiating “complicated” trade deals with every country, announcing that his administration will be following a different strategy going forward.
As Trump’s 90-day tariff pause is set to expire on July 9, the president announced he secured a trade agreement with Vietnam on Thursday.
Asked if Americans can expect more such deals ahead of next week’s deadline, Trump told reporters: “We have a couple of other deals, but you know, my inclination is to send a letter out and say what tariffs they’re going to be paying. It’s just much easier.”
“We have far more than 170 countries, and how many deals can you make?” he asked.
The president added that making trade deals is a “complicated” process, noting that he favors a simpler approach.
