The Trump administration sued Harvard, alleging it \
The Trump administration sued Harvard University on March 20 to recover billions of dollars in public funds, alleging the prestigious institution "rewarded students who assaulted, harassed, or intimidated their Jewish and Israeli peers."
The lawsuit alleges that following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, Jewish and Israeli students at Harvard were harassed, assaulted, stalked, and spat upon, and Harvard's response was to "do nothing." The suit was filed in a federal district court in Massachusetts.
The lawsuit, which was filed as a discrimination claim against Harvard, also accuses the school of failing to enforce its own rules or "meaningfully discipline" people that "occupy its buildings and terrorize its Jewish and Israeli students."
The lawsuit marks an escalation in an ongoing dispute between the Trump administration and the university, which have been in negotiations for months over a potential settlement.
Harvard didn't immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.
