Toddler dead after pedestrian collision in southwest Calgary

A toddler is dead after being struck by a vehicle in southwest Calgary.
Police said the collision happened Sunday around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Horton Road S.W. and Hull Avenue S.W., just by Macleod Trail.
The toddler was hit by a Jeep Cherokee turning into the intersection at a marked crosswalk while in a stroller being pushed by two adults, neither of whom were injured, police said.
At around 6 p.m., police reported the child was dead.
Police said the driver is on scene and cooperating with their investigation. They said impairment and speed aren't being considered as factors for the incident.
Road closures at the scene were in place as of Sunday evening.
The incident marks Calgary's second pedestrian fatality this year. The first was after a man in his nineties died of his injuries following a collision on Jan. 28 in the southwest Calgary community of Upper Mount Royal.
Last year, fatalities on Calgary roads hit a 10-year high, with the city recording 15 pedestrian deaths.
