After battling Lyme disease, Dana Parish thought she was safe from ticks when she moved from New York to the California coast. Now she comes back from the beach and checks for ticks.
"Unfortunately, I hate to break it to you, but that's exactly what you have to do," she said. Disease-carrying ticks are turning up in areas that were long believed to be tick-free, according to a study published in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology.
