Despite Pakistan's familiarity with Sri Lankan conditions, they crumbled when it mattered most at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India's comprehensive win extended their dominance over their arch-rivals, with Suryakumar remaining unbeaten as captain against Pakistan in his fourth consecutive victory.
"I think this is for India," Suryakumar said after the match. "But yeah, we played the same brand of cricket what we wanted to play. I told you at the toss as well. I think batting first was a better option on this wicket, and the way Ishan batted – how he was batting in the last few games and also in the domestic circuit – he batted the same way and took the team ahead."
Ishan Kishan produced one of the most entertaining T20I knocks by an Indian batter, blending brute power with silken finesse on a challenging Premadasa pitch. His breathtaking 77 off just 40 balls carried India to a competitive 175 for seven after being asked to bat first.
After losing Abhishek Sharma for a duck in the very first over, Kishan took responsibility in spectacular fashion. "Not really. We wanted to play the same way how we were playing," Suryakumar said when asked if the early wicket changed their approach. "I think Ishan thought something out of the box. After 0/1, there had to be someone taking responsibility in the powerplay, and the way he took that responsibility, I think it was amazing."
