The Pupil Saveetha Eco School showcases 3,500 artworks at Chithira Punaivu 2026

The Pupil Saveetha Eco School showcases 3,500 artworks at Chithira Punaivu 2026

What began as an in-house showcase within the school premises has grown into a public exhibition, inviting visitors to witness the artworks by the young creators. “This year marks a significant expansion. From under 2,000 works in previous editions, we now have 3,500 artworks this year,” says Dr Saveetha, director, The Pupil Saveetha Eco School.

At the Pupil Saveetha Eco School, art is not just an extracurricular subject; it is a way of life. This philosophy comes alive in the sixth edition of Chithira Punaivu 2026, the school’s annual art exhibition, which opens from February 25 to 28 on the school turf.

What began as an in-house showcase within the school premises has grown into a public exhibition, inviting visitors to witness the artworks by the young creators. “This year marks a significant expansion. From under 2,000 works in previous editions, we now have 3,500 artworks this year,” says Saveetha, director, The Pupil Saveetha Eco School.

Created by students from classes I to XII, this year’s standout focus is on ceramics and carpentry, with handcrafted sculptures and clay works also being the centre of attention. There are also Kalamkari textiles, hand-woven fabric, terracotta works, printmaking, and lithography done by the students. “Everything you see here is the child’s creative work. We do not inject our ideas into the child,” says Dolly Mohan, principal, The Pupil Saveetha Eco School.

Students receive two dedicated hours of art instruction each week, working across a wide spectrum of media — from watercolours and oil to pottery, ceramics, carpentry, and textile printing. “Importantly, every work on display here is created entirely within the school premises,” says Dolly.

“By the time they leave us, the children should be equipped not only academically but with life skills,” she adds.
