Temperatures to remain above normal in A.P. in Febuary

February in Andhra Pradesh will see above-normal daytime temperatures, particularly in Rayalaseema and North Coastal A.P., warns IMD.

Daytime temperatures are likely to be above-normal and minimum temperatures are expected to be normal-to-above normal in Andhra Pradesh in the month of February.

According to the monthly temperature outlook released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the country on February 1, the probability of A.P. experiencing a warmer February falls between 33.5% and 75%. In one or two pockets of North Coastal A.P. (NCAP) and a few places in Rayalaseema, the probability of above-normal temperature is 65% and more. While in other places, it is between 33.5% and 65%.

However, above-normal maximum temperatures do not mean harsher temperatures in February, says IMD, Amaravati, Director S. Stella. Explaining the forecast, the scientist said while the forecast indicates higher probability of above-normal daytime temperatures in Rayalaseema and a few pockets in NCAP, it does not yet say by what degrees the deviation is going to be.

"In the first two weeks of the month, we may see a deviation of 1-2 degree Celsius in daytime temperatures in the State, which we consider as within the normal range. Only when the deviation is above 1.9 degree Celsius that we consider the temperature to be rising,” Ms. Stella added.

The temperature may rise by 2-3 degree Celsius in the third and fourth weeks of the month in Rayalaseema and a few pockets elsewhere in the State.

According to the monthly forecast, the minimum temperatures will be normal to above normal in the State. Rayalaseema and South Coastal A.P. may see normal minimum temperatures, while the probability of above-normal minimum temperatures in North Coastal A.P. fall in the range of 33.5% to 45%. Until February 8, there will not be large difference in minimum temperatures.
