Supercrawl kicks off with a smaller but still thankful crowd

Supercrawl, Hamilton's much-loved art and music festival, didn't spill out onto downtown streets the way it normally does, but many people still showed up — this year to Bayfront Park — and said this altered version had its own charm.
The two-day On the Bay edition kicked off Friday and continues Saturday, with bands and other performances taking place on different stages by the water. Food and art vendors are also open.
Ticket holders 12 and over must show proof of full vaccination, along with matching ID, in line with provincial rules. There are other pandemic precautions in place like physical distancing and masking.
Friday featured musical acts Woodshed Orchestra, Sam Newsome Quartet, Willie Watson, Sapphyre Poison Drag Xtravaganza, Kiesza and The Halluci Nation. Saturday features Terra Lightfoot, Tim Baker and headliners Death from Above 1979, among others.
On the way to Supercrawl Friday evening, James Street North was full of artists for Art Crawl, which coincided with the event.
At Bayfront Park, at least a few hundred people enjoyed the festivities into the evening despite some differences in the atmosphere and set-up.
Ashley Ames and Alain Boudreau, who live in the Delta East neighbourhood, said this year was much more relaxed.
