Stefon Diggs’ free-agency twist in Bills-Texans blockbuster trade

The Texans reworked the contract of newly acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs, getting rid of the final three years on the deal and allowing him to become a free agent after this season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Additionally, Houston moved up the $3.5 million that Diggs is guaranteed in 2025 to this upcoming season, which means that he’ll be guaranteed $22.52 million this year, the report stated.
The news comes a day after the Texans added the star wide receiver in a deal with the Bills that landed them a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick, while giving up a 2025 second-round pick they had via the Minnesota Vikings.
The deal gives young quarterback CJ Stroud one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL to throw to next season.
The team indicated Diggs will wear the No. 1 when he suits up for the Texans this upcoming season in a social media post on Thursday evening.
The reworked deal benefits the Texans and Diggs, in theory, incentivizing the receiver even further for next season and allowing Diggs the chance to get a new deal in 2025.
