Small businesses near Disneyland "doing cartwheels" with theme park's reopening
CBSN
Disneyland has reopened and nearby business owners cannot wait for crowds to return to the theme park — and patronize their stores and restaurants again.
Safety protocols are in place and crowds will be thinner than before COVID-19 shut the amusement park down for more than a year, but business owners say they will again be grateful for the foot traffic that popular rides such as Space Mountain and Dumbo the Flying Elephant typically draw. "I swear to you, I'm doing cartwheels, you just don't see it!" Subway franchisee Rick Cerney told CBS Los Angeles affiliate KCAL9's Nicole Comstock.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
