When Chika Dike and her family moved to Sudbury, Ont., from Nigeria in 2019 she says she got a lot of support from the community.
"We got support from the Valley Pentecostal Church down in the valley," she said.
The church helped her family members get some basic household items to help them settle in the community.
Now, Dike has opened a thrift store in the city, which she says is a way to pay it forward.
"I just feel like there are more immigrants coming in and they might be needing the same help," she said.
"And you know, why can't you reach out to them?"

Trendy Thrift Store occupies a small space in a strip mall on Lasalle Boulevard, and features second-hand clothing, children's toys and books, and a variety of household items from electronics to cutlery.
There's also a box of items Dike gives away for free to anyone who needs them.
"For newcomers, if you're looking to get things very affordable, you can stop by here," she said.
While Dike hopes new arrivals to Canada and Sudbury will benefit from the store, she says she wants to serve the community at large.
In addition to the thrift store, she also plans to open a small food bank in the same space.
"We are here to support everyone, not just the Nigerian immigrants," she said.
The store opened in July, but Dike is planning a grand opening event for Aug. 31.
