After recording a sharp slide over the last three sessions, Indian shares closed higher in a volatile session on Tuesday as metals and tech stocks rebounded, while investors focused on a US Federal Reserve meeting due to end on Wednesday.

The blue-chip NSE Nifty 50 index closed up 0.95% at 17,562.00, while the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.88% to 59,005.27.
