Senegal president stresses importance of QEF in building new future for global economy

The President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, highlighted the initiative of the State of Qatar in organising the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg, stressing the importance of this international event in building a new future for the global economy, on new foundations that go beyond the repercussions of the Covid-19 crisis that struck the world since early 2020. In his speech during the forum currently being held virtually, the President said that the Covid-19 crisis has caused the fragility of all economies in the world, even the advanced ones, and negatively affected social relations, and raised many problems for different countries. He pointed out that many countries are still suffering from a shortage of vaccines, masks and other potential for counteracting the pandemic, despite efforts and innovations. He said that the crisis served an important lesson on the necessity of reinventing the world, adding that it can only be achieved by focusing on the development of the real economy by increasing investments in the sustainable agricultural, livestock, water and sustainable energy sectors, in addition to providing training to the workers in these sectors. The President continued that reinventing the world starts with facilitating everyone's access to vaccines with the goal of reaching immunity for all, adding that there should be an international solution instead of having each country work individually. He stressed that the world today needs quick and effective steps to confront the repercussions of the epidemic, noting that slowness and the wait are not in the interest of humanity, adding that Senegal is working with partner countries and institutions to contribute to the production of vaccines, create appropriate conditions for economic activity and facilitate access to capital to support it. The President also stressed that building a new world requires joint efforts to improve and reform the economic, social and political system in the world, as stipulated in the Summit on the Financing of African Economies' Declaration. He called on all partner institutions to support the aforementioned declaration and align it with the directions and objectives of the Qatar Economic Forum.
