Roof collapses, building ravaged by morning fire near downtown Windsor, Ont.
CBC
Emergency crews remain on the scene of a morning structure fire in the west Walkerville area of Windsor, Ont., — just east of the tunnel and the city's downtown core.
Earlier on Friday, flames could still be spotted shooting out of the roof of the three-floor, brick building at the corner of Wyandotte Street and Parent Avenue.
As of 9 a.m. ET, acting chief, fire prevention officer John Smith says the fire is still not out, and that the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted.
Smith says the fire started early this morning.
The building's roof collapsed and the structure has been nearly gutted because of the fire.
Smith calls it a complete write off.
Large plumes of smoke could been seen high up in the air across the city because of the blaze.
There's no word if anyone was inside at the time or what sparked the fire.
Roads in the immediate area are blocked as firefighters work to get the fire under control.
Fire officials say more information is expected to be released this afternoon.

Environmental group Greenpeace is calling for more transparency on the part of Canada's largest pulp and paper company, saying it has received millions of dollars in government funding without providing the public with details of how that money is being used or sharing its plans for the future of Canada's forests.
