Waterloo regional police say their investigation into three separate incidents where a firearm was pointed at drivers last week on the same day are connected.
The incidents happened during the early-morning hours on April 12.
Police said in a release that investigators believe they "were crimes of opportunity" and the victims were targeted randomly.
The first incident happened at 3:45 a.m. ET, when a driver in the area of Homer Watson Boulevard and Highway 401 reported that a dark-coloured sedan pulled up beside their vehicle and displayed a firearm before driving away.
At 3:50 a.m., police said, an individual was at a gas station in the area of Homer Watson and Conestoga College Boulevard when an unknown suspect approached the person, brandished a firearm and demanded their personal belongings. That incident was reported to police on April 15.
At approximately 4:20 a.m. on April 12, police received a report of a weapons incident in the area of Franklin Street North and Ottawa Street North in Kitchener.
In that case, two women were driving home from the Kitchener Masjid and reported being followed by a suspect vehicle.
Both vehicles stopped and the driver of the suspect vehicle appeared to be recording the two women. The suspect then displayed what was believed to be a firearm and sped away.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the occupant of a black Kia sedan. The person being sought has been described as a white male, approximately 20 years old and with a thin build.
