A rare parasitic plant called clustered broomrape has been rediscovered in Wisconsin near dunes overlooking Lake Michigan, after not being seen for over 44 years.
Tom Underwood, a volunteer with the Rare Plant Monitoring Program, identified the plant as a clustered broomrape (Orobanche fasciculata), the DNR wrote in its 2022 Annual Report. "Tom first set out to find this population, which was last seen in 1979, in 2018, but after ‘an exhausting search up, over and along deep, dry and unconsolidated sand,’ he gave up," the report added.
