
Rangers can’t catch Flyers as playoff gap widens

James Van Riemsdyk scored two power-play goals and the Philadelphia Flyers held on for a 3-2 victory over the host New York Rangers Thursday night.
Van Riemsdyk entered Thursday with one goal in his previous 19 games and recorded his third multi-goal game of the season by scoring twice on deflections. He scored a fluky goal late in the second period and wound up going to the locker room after tying the game.
Almost a year to the day after a goaltender interference call against Kyle Palmieri lost the Islanders a game against the Blue Jackets that started their season’s death spiral, they were on the wrong end of another controversial call against those same Blue Jackets that might have had the same effect.
