Doha: Qatari weightlifter Fares Ibrahim will participate in the World Weightlifting Championships 2025, which will be held in Volda, Norway, from October 1 to 10.
Fares will compete for the first time in the new 94 kg weight class following the recent amendments adopted by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
Fares Ibrahim's participation in the new weight class at the upcoming World Championships will be part of an early preparation plan for the Los Angeles Olympic Games 2028, which will adopt new weight classes, including the 94 kg weight class.
This weight class has become the most suitable option, both technically and physically, for the Qatari weightlifter, after he had previously competed in the 102 kg weight class, which was abolished following recent IWF decisions.
Secretary-General of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation Jassim Ibrahim Al Mansouri, who is also member of the IWF's Development and Education Committee, confirmed that Fares Ibrahim's participation in the World Championships 2025 represents a delicate and strategic transitional phase in the player's career, in light of the fundamental amendments approved by the IWF to the weight classes.
