HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri

The State of Qatar valued the ability of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to adapt to the international challenges that accompanied the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and expressed hope that OHCHR would continue to benefit from the lessons of responding to this pandemic in developing its future plan and enhancing its ability to accomplish its tasks. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered on Tuesday by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri, during the interactive dialogue on the annual report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights under the second item on the agenda of the Human Rights Council. His Excellency thanked the High Commissioner for her annual report and praised the efforts undertaken by her office during the reporting period, and said that we share the High Commissioner's opinion on the importance of placing sustainable development goals and human rights-based economic recovery efforts as a top priority in the next stage, especially in developing countries, pointing out to the State of Qatar's intention to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, during the period from Jan. 23 to 27, 2022, hoping that it will constitute an opportunity to support the capabilities of these countries and enhance their resilience to achieve the sustainable development plan and its comprehensive goal of leaving no one behind. He added that convinced of the importance of the great work of the High Commissioner, and the challenge it is facing due to the continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the State of Qatar has pledged to provide support to the High Commissioner for the period from 2021 to 2023 in order to enable it to carry out its mandate effectively.
